UECC's general political principles

First principle

Fully functional and efficient transport markets are essential for prosperity and economic growth in Europe.

Second principle

Transport markets can only function efficiently if the free choice of the mode of transport is guaranteed and if free access to all modes of transport is ensured.

Third principle

An infrastructure based on the needs of the users is a prerequisite for efficient transport markets. The capacity and quality of transport infrastructure needs to be adapted to changes in demand.

Fourth principle

Adequate means are needed for maintenance and extension of transport infrastructure. As a rule, income generated from each mode of transport shall be used for that mode of transport only.

Fifth principle

European transport markets are interconnected, and the different modes of transport each have their own strengths and weaknesses. The resulting competition between the different modes of transport should not be distorted by government intervention.
